7. What is your end goal? What do you want to have accomplished by the end of your career as a photographer?

Photography is an end in itself to me. I do it because it is a passion and that has to be expressed. The minute I lose that desire I will quit. My goal is and always has been to expand as an artist and continue to develop my own personal style.

8. What's been your proudest moment so far as a photographer?

Meeting and learning from other amazing photographers that I respect like Kesler Tran.

9. What advice do you have for anyone considering being a photographer that you wish someone would have told you when you first started?

Focus on your artistic vision. I don't believe technical knowledge is the measure of a great photographer. Don't get fixated or intimidated by the technical aspect.  You can be taught the basics of exposure and lighting etc., however, no on can teach you how to "see" as an artist. You have to nurture and develop your own eye. That is what makes you unique as a photographer.

10. So Tony, what do you think about All Models Worldwide? Are we doing alright so far!?

Yes definitely! Speaking of an artistic eye, your artistic director is incredible.  Amazing work!

Tony Ellis has been a favorite of ours for quite some time. It is an honor to have an opportunity to have him feature on the site, ask him questions, and get his insight on photography so that upcoming photographers can read and gain knowledge from such a seasoned talent. We definitely look forward to working with Tony more in the future as All Models Worldwide continues to grow!

1. Where are you based out of or where do you primarily shoot?

I am based out of New York. So I primarily shoot in the the Tri-State area which includes New York City.

2. Why photography? What was the singular thing that made you realize that this is what you want to pursue as a career?

An artistic outlet has been a necessary element throughout my life. For right now, photography allows me to express myself in a challenging manner. I learned film photography and traditional processes when I was a teenager but never actually began photographing people until I had children.

3. What is your favorite style of photography to shoot and why? (i.e. beauty, fashion, commercial, etc.)

I prefer natural portraits most of all. There's something extremely exciting about capturing a great natural moment in someone's life.

4. How much time had passed from when you first started shooting to when you first got your work published in a magazine?

I never focused on getting published. It wasn't and is not a goal of mine, so I'm not entirely sure but I believe it was about 8 or 9 months.

5. When was your first opportunity working with an agency represented model and how was that experience?

The first agency model I shot was actually an ex-girlfriend so by the time I started approaching agencies to shoot their girls, it was very natural for me.

My overall experience with agency models has been positive. Most are prompt and have a good attitude. Even the more well-known models. It may be difficult to book a shoot with them initially but once they arrive, most have a good attitude and are willing to do what it takes to get a great shot and make our time spent worthwhile.

6. What kind of camera do you shoot with? Do you use different cameras for different shoots?

My personal camera is the Sony A7II mirrorless. That is what I shoot with the majority of the time. If the job requires a different type of gear I will rent it.
